Devdutt Padikkal has had a superb Indian T20 League career so far. Besides, he has had an opportunity to play with some of the biggest names of the game. He opened the batting alongside Virat Kohli on several occasions until the 2021 edition. He then got the chance to open with Jos Buttler in the ongoing 2022 season.
In a recent interview with ESPN Cricinfo's '#politeenquires', a fan asked Padikkal who was more fun to bat with between Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler? The 21-year old hesitated to answer at first, but then said that Virat was more fun to bat because he is one of the greatest to have played the game.
Recalling an incident involving Virat Kohli in another interview, Padikkal said that Virat's gesture made him feel special after his maiden century against Rajasthan when he played for Bangalore. "The one thing that I remember pretty clearly was when Virat was being followed by a camera and he told the cameraman ‘Go to him (Devdutt). He is the main man today,' and you know that still gives me goosebumps whenever I think about it," he said while talking during the Red Bull’s podcast 'Greatness starts here.'
The southpaw was purchased by the Rajasthan team for a whopping amount of INR 7.75 crores ahead of the 2022 season. In the 12 matches that he has played this season, he has scored 295 runs. The team has played him at different positions throughout the tournament. More recently, he is playing as a middle-order batter for the Rajasthan-based franchise.
The Sanju Samson-led team is currently placed third on the points table. They have seven victories to their name in 12 games. The team have had good performances, but are yet to qualify for the playoffs. They must win both of their remaining games to guarantee a spot in the top four. They play their final two games against Lucknow and Chennai on May 15 and 20 respectively. However, they recently lost to Delhi by eight wickets.
