It is no news that Virat Kohli has been out of form for a while now. He has not been able to score a lot of runs in the past few months. Earlier, he was at least scoring match-winning half-centuries, but that too has not happened in a while. To make matters worse, the 33-year-old has fallen in the ICC Test player rankings.

For the first time in the last six years, Virat Kohli has failed to retain his spot in the top 10 Test rankings. After the recent failure against England in the fifth Test match at Edgbaston, Virat dropped down to the 13th position in the rankings. In the two innings in the match, the right-handed batter could only score 11 and 20 runs, respectively.

In addition, the former Indian captain has not scored a century in over two and a half years. He last scored a century against Bangladesh in November 2019. He will now look to regain his form and get better results for his team.

The last edition of the Indian T20 League also was also disappointing for Virat. Playing for Bangalore, he ended the 2022 season with 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of 22.73 and a strike rate of 115.98 with two fifties. Many experts advised Virat to take a break from cricket after the cash-rich league, which he did during South Africa's tour to India.

He was expected to return to his original form for the Test against England, but he did not. He'll be back in action against England in the second T20I of the white-ball series.

Rishabh Pant in Test rankings

In the meantime, Rishabh Pant climbed up five spots in the Test batter rankings. He played a heroic knock of 146 runs in 111 balls in the first innings against England and followed it up with a half-century in the next. He was at the top of his game throughout the match. After losing five wickets for 98 runs in the first innings, the 24-year-old put the side back in a good position.
