If reports are to be believed, former India skipper Rahul Dravid is set to become the next India coach. The current coach Ravi Shastri will vacate his post after the T20 International Cup and Dravid is the probable candidate to take over. A BCCI official confirmed that Dravid has agreed to take over the reins of team India till the 2023 International 50-over Cup. Dravid’s name was doing rounds ever since he coached a young team India on the Sri Lanka tour. However, the veteran played down it saying becoming a full-time coach takes a lot of commitment and he is not sure he can commit that effort. However, it is learned that he agreed to coach India after the BCCI president and his good friend Sourav Ganguly convinced him.

“Yes, Rahul has agreed to coach the Indian team till the 2023 World Cup. Initially, he was reluctant but it is understood that president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah had a meeting with Rahul on the sidelines of the IPL final where they were able to convince him,” a BCCI official told, according to Crictracker. “It won’t be an interim role,” he added.

Meanwhile, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also reacted to the news. Kohli was asked about his views on Dravid becoming the next India coach to which the skipper responded by saying that he is not aware of the developments. “No idea exactly what’s happening on that front. No detailed discussion with anyone yet,” Kohli said

The International T20 World Cup will see former India skipper MS Dhoni give his services as a mentor of Team India. Kohli also talked about the presence of Kohli in the dressing room and said Dhoni has always been a mentor for the players and his presence will add value to the team. “He has got massive experience. He is quite excited himself. He has always been a mentor for all of us. Younger guys who are playing their first major tournaments at early stages of career will benefit,” said Kohli.
