In the past three years or so, India batters have struggled against left-arm pacers. The issue gets galvanized invariably when the team is playing at the global stage. This time the beneficiary to expose this weakness of Indian batters was Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, who picked up three wickets- two in the powerplay to put India on the back foot in the 20-20 World Cup. The left-arm pacer was spot on with his line lengths and swung the ball with relative ease.
He picked up important wickets and set up a memorable 10-wicket victory for Pakistan. During the post-match conference, a journalist asked India skipper Virat Kohli if he should have played Ishan Kishan instead of Rohit Sharma. Sharma's weakness against left-arm pacers are world known. Kohli though found the question hilarious and said, "That's a very brave question. What do you think, sir? I played the team that I thought was the best. What is your opinion?"
The journalist didn’t stop at it and asked Kohli if he will drop Rohit Sharma for the next match. The Indian skipper was left in complete disbelief and hit back by saying, "Do you know what he did in the last game we played? Unbelievable (laughs). Sir, if you want controversy, please tell me before so I can answer accordingly," he added.
Speaking about the match, Pakistan put on a dominating performance and managed to beat India for the first time in the 20-20 World Cup. Skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan finished the match with an unbroken 152-run stand.
