Virat Kohli to lead Bangalore in the Indian T20 League 2022 ?

Former India cricketer Ajit Agarkar has given his views of the captaincy conundrum of Bangalore. Virat Kohli, who led the team from 2013, stepped down from the post after the last season thus the franchise is in need of a skipper. However, there are not many options available. Most of the big players, who can be captaincy candidates, are likely to fetch big sum and Bangalore, having retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj, does not have a lot of purse left in the bag. While there are reports that the franchise is eyeing Shreyas Iyer for the role, Iyer will be on the radar of many other franchises.

Agarkar has a simple solution for the dilemma and feels if Virat Kohli can take back the captaincy, it will be best for the team. “If Virat Kohli can take over the captaincy and if he is happy to do it and if he has the energy to do it, I think that will be the easiest solution for them. At the end of the day, we have seen RCB over the years they haven’t invested enough money in making a proper team of 12, 13 or 14 players with enough depth,” said Agarkar on Star Sports show Game Plan: IPL auction special.

Meanwhile, Bangalore is still searching for their maiden Indian T20 League title. Agarkar highlighted the issues in the team and said that the team always relies on heavy top order and pays little attention to the middle order, which has been one of the main reasons the team has not been able to do well. Agarkar also doubted if the team will be able to sort out the issue in the upcoming season given the limited purse of 57 crores they have.

“It’s always been dependent on the top three, not enough middle order players and if you don’t have the money, you can’t do that again. So, if you break the bank for one player, doesn’t matter how good he is – will win you games but will never win you competitions,” he added.
