Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri shared a great relationship as the coach-skipper of the Indian team for a few years. Under the duo, the team achieved great success. However, the last years have been tough on Kohli, as a batter as well as captain. While the team did well in the bilateral series, he failed to win in global events. He also stepped down as India T20I and Test captain and was sacked as an ODI skipper.

Ravi Shastri believes that Virat can take a break for 2 to 3 months to come back stronger. The former cricketer said that Virat still has a few years of "good" cricket left in him, adding that he needs to calm down and focus on his batting. "He realizes he is 33, he realizes he has 5 years of good cricket ahead of him. If he can calm down, focus on his batting, take one game at a time, probably take a break for a series, it would do him world of good," Shastri said in a conversation with Shoaib Akhtar on his YouTube channel,

"To come back and play those three-four years as king, absolute king. You know where he is clear mentally, knows exactly what his job and role are, and then plays as a team player, that's where I want to see Virat Kohli now. To come, contribute big time as a team player and help the team win," he added.

At first, Virat quit the captaincy in the T20 format to manage his workload. He was then dropped as the ODI skipper ahead of the South Africa tour. And finally, he stepped down as the Test captain after a series loss against the Proteas.

Virat will next play in the whit-ball series against West Indies starting on the 6th of February. Rohit Sharma will captain the side in T20I and ODI against West Indies. Test Captaincy is still up for grabs.
