On 7 December 2022, team India suffered a loss in the second ODI in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Bangladesh. With that loss, Bangladesh sealed the series with one more match to go. Thus, after the 20-20 World Cup, team India have now lost two consecutive ODI series in New Zealand and Bangladesh respectively.

However, senior players like Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma took a rest from the New Zealand tour after the World Cup. But, in this series, they made a comeback. Still, the result did not change for the Men in Blue. Now, the former Indian cricketer, Saba Karim raised questions about resting star players from that New Zealand tour.

“Virat Kohli was in such good form during the World Cup. He was not taken to New Zealand” - Saba Karim

During a discussion on India News, Saba Karim said that Virat Kohli was in so good form in the World Cup. But, he took a rest from the New Zealand tour, and now, he has come back. He said: “Virat Kohli was in such good form during the World Cup. He was not taken to New Zealand. Rohit Sharma also did not tour New Zealand, neither did KL Rahul.”

“All three came back here (Bangladesh tour), but you need some time to find form again. Shreyas Iyer is the only one who has been playing ODIs regularly, and he is also the only one who has been scoring consistently,” he added

The former cricketer also said that there is so much confusion when it comes to resting and backing players in the Indian team management. “There is just too much confusion. The players that should be backed are not being backed. If a player comes back to form, he is given rest. Players who are not in form end up getting a chance to play,” Saba Karim concluded. Speaking about Virat Kohli, he scored 296 runs in six innings of the 20-20 World Cup. He was the highest scorer in that tournament. But, in this Bangladesh ODI series, he has managed only 14 runs in two matches.
