Former English cricketer David Lloyd accused Virat Kohli of excessive appealing on Day 4 of the ongoing Test match. The veteran indicated that the Indian skipper was trying to influence the umpires. Lloyd also opined that Virat Kohli is feeling the pressure after Ajinkya Rahane's excellence in the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Virat Kohli is one of the most energetic characters on the field, and thus his appealing is not a surprise. However, the former batsman believes the other way and is not entirely pleased with the Indian captain. The Englishman blamed the India skipper for trying to influence the umpires in the middle.
England takes a 1-0 lead in the four-match Test series
Joe Root and Co. defeated India by 227 runs on Day 5 of the first Test match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With this, England takes a 1-0 lead in the four-match series. In response to England's massive target of 420 runs, India could only score 192 runs in 58.1 overs.
Virat Kohli was the top performer for India with a knock of 72 runs off 104 balls. However, his half-century went incomplete as England bowlers put in an outstanding performance. Having lost Rohit Sharma before Day 4, team India made a poor start on the final day. Cheteshwar Pujara scored just 15 runs and lost his wicket to a brilliant delivery from Jack Leach. Opening batsman Shubman Gill was also dismissed after reaching his half-century. The remaining batting line-up composed by Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar were sent back to the pavilion cheaply, leaving Kohli to fight a lone battle. Leach grabbed the limelight as he picked up four crucial wickets, while James Anderson's terrific spell helped him scalp three wickets.
Other England bowlers including Jofra Archer, Dom Bess and Ben Stokes registered each in the second innings. The second Test between India and England is going to begin on February 13, at the same venue. Virat Kohli and the team will be aiming to make a turnaround and level the series.
