Virat Kohli decided to step down from his position as the Test captain of the Indian cricket team after India’s poor show against South Africa. Kohli was the captain of the side for seven long years and helped the team win several Test matches in overseas conditions. His sudden decision to resign from the position surprised several former cricketers and the BCCI.
Kohli captained India in 68 Test matches, winning 40 matches and losing 17. He was the most successful Test captain in Indian cricket history. Kohli helped India win Test matches in the SENA countries. Under his captaincy, the Indian team reached the number one position in Test cricket rankings. He led India to twin series wins in Australia and also gave India a 2-1 lead in the 5 match Test series against England in England, the final of which will be played later in July this year. India never lost a test series at home under Kohli. Earlier Kohli had stepped down as India T20 captain and was later removed as the ODI captain.
