India batter Suryakumar Yadav shined brightly against New Zealand in the first T02I on Wednesday (November 17). He scored 62 runs and anchored the run-chase of 165 well. It was essential for India to start on a winning note considering that a few senior players were rested. Yadav grabbed his chance well and played a brilliant knock.

After the early loss of KL Rahul for 15, Yadav played according to the situation and displayed a calm demeanour. Meanwhile, in the absence of Virat Kohli, Yadav was sent in to bat at no three. It's a crucial position and generally, the best batter of the team play there. However, Yadav looked at complete ease while his stay at the wicket. The batter was effusive in praise of former skipper Virat Kohli, who had sent him ahead of himself to bat at No 3 on a couple of occasions.

The Mumbai Indians batter heaped praises on Kohli and said it was kind of Virat Kohli to sacrifice his position, adding that it helped him get some valuable world cup game time and boost his confidence. Yadav further said he is comfortable batting at any position.

"I am very flexible with the batting order. I have batted from opening to No7. I can bat at any position, and I am happy with that," Suryakumar said in the post-match press conference.

"I still remember when I made my batting debut, he was the one who sacrificed his position and let me go at No. 3 when I played against England, and he batted at 4. It was the same thing. He asked whether I want to go in so that I get some World Cup game time. It was really nice of him and I enjoyed coming back not out in that game.”
