After missing out on the first ODI match between India and England, Virat Kohli returned to the playing XI for the second match of the series. When it was revealed that Virat will return to the team during the toss, the fans at Lord's erupted in joy. There was a question about his availability after he suffered a minor groin injury before the first match.
Meanwhile, the fan craze of Virat Kohli reminded former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag of his teammate Sachin Tendulkar. He believes Kohli has elevated fan expectations since he used to get a century every three to four matches earlier. Sehwag stated that his former teammate Sachin Tendulkar endured similar pressures during his playing days. Notably, Virat Kohli has been out of form for a while, and has not scored a century in over two and a half years.
"I think everybody is waiting for a hundred from him, which hasn’t come for a long time. If you take a look at his past record, he used to score a hundred in every 3-4 matches. That hasn’t happened for some time now and maybe that is why there is so much talk about it. Hum bhi ek aise khiladi k saath khela karte the jinka naam Sachin Tendulkar hai. (We used to play with another such cricketer, whose name is Sachin Tendulkar)," Sehwag said on Sony Sports.
"If he hadn’t scored runs for 3-4 innings, there used to be a discussion which used to reach a stage where it felt like he hadn’t scored for long. He also used to score in every 3-4 innings, the same is with Virat Kohli," he added.
As for the match, England scored 246 runs in the first innings thanks to some decent performances. Moeen Ali, with his 47 runs in 64 balls, was the top scorer of the innings. Jonny Bairstow (38 runs in 38 balls) and David Willey (41 runs in 49 balls) both contributed to the game. For India, Yzvendra Chahal was the standout with his four wickets.
The men in blue failed to make an impact in the chase and were all out for just 146 runs. England won by a margin of 100 runs, with Reece Topley taking six wickets.
