MS Dhoni is one of the most successful captains of the Indian T20 League history. He has guided the Chennai team to four titles. However, ahead of the 2022 season, he stepped down as the captain, handing over the reins to Ravindra Jadeja.

Under Jadeja's captaincy, the men in yellow did not have the best run. They played eight games in the season and lost six of them. They lagged at the ninth position in the points table. On top of that, Jadeja's personal form was also hampered by the burden. The all-rounder then decided to hand over the captaincy back to MS Dhoni ahead of the match against Hyderabad. With MS Dhoni back, Chennai stepped up their game and picked up an emphatic win over Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, former India opener Virender Sehwag believes that with Dhoni back, Chennai can reach the Indian T20 League 2022 playoffs. The Indian legend recalled playing under his captaincy for India, saying that Dhoni led India to wins in many tournament that the team never expected to win. "I have been with that man since 2005 and I have seen Indian cricket change under him," Sehwag said while speaking on Cricbuzz. "We won several ICC knockouts, home series under him, the ones which we used to lose before but they turned into victories. So keeping that in mind, I am saying that it can happen [CSK winning 6 games in a row]," he said.

Notably, Chennai needs to win all of its remaining matches to stand a chance to qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, MS Dhoni captained Chennai in his first game of the season against Hyderabad on Sunday. The men in yellow scored 202 runs on the board, batting first. Ruturaj Gaikwad (99 runs in 57 balls) and Devon Conway (85 runs in 55 balls) were the stars of the innings. In reply, the orange army tried hard to get to the score but fell short by 13 runs.

Chennai play their next game against Rajasthan on 4th May at the Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune.
