Wasim Akram has picked the Indian cricket team as his favorite for the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup.
While it is still too early to predict a winner, Wasim Akram has picked the Indian team as the likely winner. He said that India plays T20 cricket in a fearless way which makes them his top pick. He did not rule out England or New Zealand from his list of favorites and possible winners of the event. The West Indies could also play fearless cricket if their main players are all in. Thereby, the West Indies team could also steal the trophy.
The T20 World Cup is supposed to take place in India later this year. India would host the event after nearly five years. The last edition of the T20 World Cup held in India was in 2016. The West Indies team had won the World Cup that year after beating England in the final.
At present, due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in India, there are talks of shifting the venue for the event. The International Cricket Council(ICC) members would hold a virtual meeting on June 1 to discuss the situation in India. The meeting would help decide a definite venue for the World Cup if India is ruled out as the possible nation for hosting the event. The ICC’s decision would also depend upon the decision BCCI takes in the Special General Meeting(SGM). The SGM would be held 2 days before the scheduled ICC meeting.
The Pakistan Cricket team has dominated the ICC T20I Rankings
Pakistan Cricket team would also enter the tournament to contend for the title. Wasim Akram opined that the Pakistan team needs to make their middle-order strong. The team combination needs should be sorted properly specifically the problem of number 5 and number 6. It would increase their chances of winning the T20 World Cup.
Akram stated that being a Pakistani, he wants Pakistan to win the title as well. It would be a dream come true for their nation and the team’s captain Babar Azim. The last time Pakistan won the T20I World Cup title was 12 years back in 2009.
