A dog on the ground forced the halt of an international women's football match. The event was captured on video and has since gone viral. It shows the dog running about on the ground, seeking the players for pats and belly rubs. The funny incident occurred on June 26 during a women's match between Chile and Venezuela at La Granja stadium in Curico.

The 51-second video shows Chilean goalkeeper Christiane Endler giving the black Labrador pats and belly rubs. The dog then rushed up to the referee and sought belly rubs. It then ran the length of the pitch, refusing to be taken away. The players attempted to persuade it out of the ground, but it refused and continued to run about.

Later in the video, Chilean players were seen having a break and talking with the coach. Two players and a ball boy eventually removed the dog. The video has made rounds on the internet. "EVERYBODY STOP RIGHT NOW AND WATCH THIS!!! THIS IS WHAT WE ALL NEEDED!" read the caption of the video that went viral.

"If the authorities ever get their way and make football a match of four quarters so they can squeeze in more advertisements, this is what I insist they fill the gaps with to entertain us in the stadium. I want the "Who's a good dog? You are!" break," a fan hilariously commented.

Several such events have been reported in recent months. A cat invaded the field of play during a game between Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic in the third-tier English League One in February. The game had to be stopped because the cat would not leave the pitch.

Jason Kerr, a Scottish player for Wigan Athletic, tried and failed several times to get the cat off the pitch. Kerr tickled the cat and picked it up before leading it off the field. Fans praised him for his reaction.

As for the match between Chile and Venezuela, it was a friendly fixture ahead of Copa America, which starts on July 8. Venezuela went on to win the game 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Mariana Speckmaier eight minutes before the game ended.
