On 13 December 2022, the 12th season of the Big Bash League began in Canberra. Melbourne Stars took on Sydney Thunder in the opening game of this season. In the last season, Sydney Thunder lost in the play-off while Melbourne Stars finished in the seventh position after the group stage.
Speaking of the match, Sydney Thunder won the toss and they opted to bowl first. However, Sydney got a moderate target of 123 runs to win the first game of this season. But, during their innings, Melbourne Stars’ Brody Couch grabbed a spectacular catch and that video has now gone viral.

Fans went crazy after the catch from Brody Couch while Trent Boult was bowling
Speaking of the video, the incident took place in the first over of Sydney Thunder’s innings. Trent Boult was bowling while Matthew Gilkes and Alex Hales came out to open for Sydney Thunder. On the second delivery of that over, Gilkes flicked the ball nicely but he couldn't keep it down.
The substitute fielder, Brody Couch was standing at short fine. He juggled the ball twice but somehow managed to hold it. Thus, Boult got his first wicket of the tournament and Gilkes went for a duck off two balls. Fans loved it so much as they made the video of that catch viral instantly. In the 20th over, Couch took another stunner with one hand despite being 20 yards inside the ropes at long-off.
While batting first, Melbourne Stars scored 122 runs for eight wickets. Nick Larkin was the highest scorer with 25 runs off 26 balls, including one four. For Sydney Thunder, Gurinder Sandhu, Daniel Sams, and Fazalhaq Farooqi took two wickets each. In reply, Sydney Thunder won the match on the last ball by one wicket. Nathan Coulter-Nile took three wickets for 19 runs in four overs. Along with him, other bowlers also performed well but their fight went in vain as Sydney Thunder kicked off the tournament with a crucial win.
