Chadwick Walton's unbeaten 80 off 57 guided Trinbago Knight Riders to another final of the Caribbean Premier League. TKR advanced to the finals of CPL 2023 with a commanding seven-wicket win over Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 1 in Guyana on Wednesday, September 20. Walton's bat didn't do much of the talking in this tournament, but it did when it mattered most.
TKR captain Kieron Pollard's decision to field first was proved right by their bowlers as they restricted Guyana to 166/7 in 20 overs. Saim Ayub once again delivered a solid start for his team but he fell one run short of a well-deserved half-century. Azam Khan played a short cameo in the middle order but it didn't hurt the opposition much as none of the other batters stepped up. Waqar Salamkheil and Terrance Hinds were the pick of the bowlers for TKR, picking up two wickets each.
In reply, Walton and Mark Deyal started off well in their chase, scoring at a brisk rate. Deyal departed early, but Nicholas Pooran came in at No. 3 and smashed Tahir for a couple of sixes to set the tone for TKR. Walton and Pooran stitched a brilliant partnership before skipper Pollard arrived. Walton, at the other end, continued to play his attacking game and completed a fine half-century.
Here's a look at Walton's amazing striking that led his side to the finals of CPL 2023:

If we win the final, will feel better than this: Walton
Pollard played an impactful cameo before falling to Dwaine Pretorius in the final over of the innings. However, Guyana could not find a way to dismiss Walton, who scored the winning run by punching it down to long-on for a single. The West Indies wicketkeeper batter remained unbeaten on 80 runs with six fours and four sixes.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Player of the Match Chadwick Walton said: "I would like to thank the coaches and players for having the confidence in me. Happy with the win. Has been an emotional ride and a half-century. Kudos to the guys for having the confidence in me. Only if we win the final, will feel better than this."
TKR will play their fifth CPL final on Sunday, September 24 at the same venue. Meanwhile, Guyana will have another chance to make it to the final in the second qualifier on Friday, September 23. They will face Jamaica Tallawahs who beat Saint Lucia Kings in the Eliminator.
