On 20 October 2022, Sri Lanka took on the Netherlands in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup in Geelong. Current Asia Cup champions suffered a loss in the opener against Namibia before winning against the UAE. On the other hand, the Netherlands came to that encounter by winning both of their matches.

However, Sri Lanka managed to win the match by 16 runs. With the win, they managed to qualify for the “Super 12” stage. Speaking of the incident, Sri Lankan fans were ecstatic after their team managed to qualify for the second round. That couple was not an exception also. They were seen sharing a kiss to celebrate the victory. Speaking of the match, Sri Lanka batted first and scored 162 runs for six wickets.

In reply, the Dutch scored 146 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Thus, the Lankans won the game by 16 runs. With this win, Sri Lanka qualified for the second round of the ongoing World Cup. However, along with them, the Netherlands also qualified for the second round. It happened only because Namibia also lost their match against UAE.

Speaking about Sri Lanka, they were in a spot of bother after losing to Namibia. Fans were in shock as they came to that tournament as the Asia Cup champions. But, they turned the whole thing around and managed to qualify for the next round. Now, they will be in action again on 23 October when they will play against a qualifier. On the other hand, the Netherlands will be in action again on 24 October when they will play against Bangladesh. They are now in the group along with India and Pakistan.
