The fan following that some Indian cricketers garner these days could overshadow the popularity of many actors and politicians. Players like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, and Jasprit Bumrah have become household names and their fans go to great lengths to have a picture or autograph of the player.

Another such player who commands a great fan following in the country is Rohit Sharma. The right-hand batter has been a massively popular figure in the country on the back of his sensational career. The Nagpur-born cricketer is currently at the pinnacle of his career as he now leads the Indian Cricket Team in all formats.

The extent of Rohit Sharma’s fan following was laid bare for all to see at India’s last match against South Africa. In a video which is going viral on social media, a fan could be seen climbing down from the second tier of Holkar Stadium to intercept the Indian team. The incident occurred at the end of the first innings as India walked into the dressing room.

Here's the video:

The fan could be seen climbing down from the second tier through the back of the sight screen and going to Rohit Sharma. Upon reaching, he asks for a picture with the Indian skipper and touches his feet as a show of respect. Seeing this the security guards run and get hold of the fan. He was then taken to the side and probably out of the stadium since doing something like this is illegal.

As for the game, it was a reality check for the Indian team. With Virat Kohli and KL Rahul rested, the Indian side were given a thumping defeat by the South Africans. The visiting team created a mammoth total of 227/3 on the back of a sensational 100* in 48 balls. In reply, the Indian side were able to only manage 178/10 in 18.3 overs and lost the game by a massive 49 runs. The series however was won by India by a 2-1 margin.
