The Test action in the English summer continued with the second Test against New Zealand at the Trent Bridge. The Black Caps had a dominant day one as they scored 318 runs batting first. Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell once again came through for the team as they put on a 149-run partnership. The first day of the game also witnessed a hilarious incident involving Daryl Mitchell and an English Spectator.
The event occurred during the 56th over of the innings, which was delivered by left-arm spinner Jack Leach. He delivered a flighted delivery to Mitchell, who stepped down the track and smashed the ball over the straight boundary for a six. However, the six wound up in the beer glass of a spectator. England bowler Matt Potts was seen describing the ball landing in the glass with a hand gesture.

The Barmy Army's Twitter handle tweeted saying that New Zealand Cricket bought Susan, the spectator whose glass was hit by the ball, a replacement drink. "Susan - the lady earlier who Daryl Mitchell’s pint hit - has been given a replacement by the Kiwi team," read the caption.

Mitchell even apologised to the spectator at the conclusion of the day. The all-rounder also made a point of checking in whether she received a replacement drink. He then jokingly advised her to catch the ball in her hand next time. Susan remarked that it went right into her drink, and she didn't have time to think about it.

In the meantime, the Mitchell-Blindell duo had a great run on the first day. Mitchell was undefeated on 81 runs, while Blundell was not out on 67. They will look to continue from where they left off on day one. England beat them in the first match at Lord's, and the Kiwis will want to come back stronger. They will look forward to levelling the series and competing in the third match for the decider.
