Notably, with the ‘Saw you cry on the Telly’ chants, the England fans basically recalled the incident when Steve Smith broke down while speaking during a live press conference. Smith was attending this press conference just in the aftermath of the one-year ban over him due to the ‘Sandpaper Gate’ scandal in 2018 for the infamous Cape Town Test fiasco.
When the England fans were making this chant for Smith, the England player Ollie Robinson, who was batting at the moment, could also be seen smiling as soon as the chants reached his ears.
