Since the India-Pakistan game, controversy had been surrounding India's left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh. In that game, he dropped a catch of Asif Ali which eventually cost his side the game. After this, he became a subject of trolling on Twitter although it was later found out that it was instigated in Pakistan. Not to forget that the Wikipedia executives were asked to give an explanation after his page was tampered with.

Recently, a leading car service brand offered free car inspection to the former India U19 player. This gesture wasn't taken well by the Indian fans. Once again, he faced a disturbing situation after India's loss against Sri Lanka. After the game, he was heading to the team bus when a fan called him a 'traitor'. The left-arm pacer didn't react but a journalist standing beside the fan started scolding the latter.

Meanwhile, India skipper Rohit Sharma has backed Singh despite the backlash the latter is facing. Sharma said that the players don't look into social media much. He added that he was disappointed after the drop catch against Pakistan, Arshdeep was disappointed but had the confidence to bowl the final over.

"Honestly, guys don't look too much into social media, there's too much crap happening there," Rohit said. "A few losses here and there, few games here and there, one drop catch…I don't think we look too much into it.
"Yes, he himself was disappointed because it was a catch that could've been taken, but again if you saw his confidence in that final over, he nailed that yorker pretty well to get Asif Ali out. That shows if he was down and out, when you're mentally not there, the execution doesn't happen. But in his case, he came out confident to execute. In fact, he just ran into his place and took the ball, because he wanted that over to be bowled by him."
