Sydney Thunder locked horns with Brisbane Heat in Sydney in the ongoing Big Bash League on 27 December 2022. It was a crucial clash for Sydney Thunder as they were in search of their first win in this ongoing season. On the other hand, Brisbane Heat were looking to strengthen their position in the table.
Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder did not disappoint their home fans as they managed to win the match, They won it with a huge margin of 10 wickets. But, during that excellent chasing, an unwanted incident occurred when Matthew Gilkes was batting. That video has now gone viral on social media platforms.

Speaking of the video, the incident took place during the 11th over of Sydney Thunder’s innings. Both Matthew Gilkes and Alex Hales were batting. While Mitchel; Swepson was bowling for Brisbane Heat. In that over, Gilkes hit him for three massive sixes. But, a fan got hit by the ball at the crowd by the second six.
It came on the fourth delivery of that over. Matthew Gilkes came down the track and smoked it over wide long-on. However, a fan was seen trying to catch that but he ended up getting hit by the ball right on his face. However, he looked fine as there was no severe injury scare. Speaking of the match, Brisbane Heat won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 121 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Colin Munro scored 43 runs off 47 balls, including three fours and one six. For Sydney, both Daniel Sams and Chris Green took two wickets each.
In reply, Alex Hales and Matthew Gilkes batted brilliantly to chase down the target without losing any wickets in just 11.4 overs. Hales scored 59 runs off 36 balls, including 10 fours. Along with him, Gilkes scored 56 runs off 34 balls, including six fours and three sixes. Gilkes also won the player of the match award for his match-winning knock against Brisbane.
