A failed catch attempt during the qualifier match between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers at Melbourne left everyone in splits. Luckily, the catch was not dropped by the fielder but by a spectator. Facing his first delivery, Dan Christian smoked the ball over the long-on boundary where the spectator tried his best to catch the ball.
The boy jumped over the fence to make the catch but the ball landed before his attempt, and he fell to the ground. He left the commentators and everyone in the audience with laughs.
The commentators were stunned by his attempt. “What a strike and oh, he desperately wanted to get in the Maccas classic catches. The desperation. He got over the fence. It wasn’t even the fall-over leaning. Oh, what a feeling indeed,” Said Adam Gilchrist on air.
According to Fox, the spectator was approached by on-ground security later for a talk behind the stands. The audience started applauding upon his return to the stands.
The commentator reacted to the spectator being taken away by the guard. He said, “I don’t know I think he is getting chucked out. That’s unlucky. That’s harsh. I don’t think he has had any beers or anything. He is just having a good time. The world has gone mad I’m afraid.”
The knockout stages of the Big Bash League are underway. Perth Scorchers has made it to the finals after winning the Qualifier. They will face either Sydney Thunder or Adelaide Strikers, who will face off in the Knockout on the 23rd of January. The winner of the Challenger will join the Scorchers in the finals to be played on the 28th of January.
