The India- Pakistan Asia Cup match brought happiness to more than a billion fans when the Men in Blue defeated Pakistan in their first match of the Asia Cup. The highly anticipated match followed a celebration in India that was previously seen when India won the 2011 World Cup.

This was one instance when the whole country came together to watch a historically important game of cricket. And the match did not disappoint! It was such an event that could be enjoyed with the family and many in the country did just that. Supriya Sule, an MP from Maharastra, shared one such video of her family enjoying India winning the match from her drawing room.

The whole family, including the elders and the children, could be seen celebrating Hardik Pandya’s six that sealed the match for India. Sharad Pawar, Sule’s father and a veteran in Indian politics and the former Chairman of the Indian Cricket Board, could be seen emphatically raising both of his hands as Men in Blue got over the line in style. Sharad Pawar held the office from 2005 to 2008.

The much-awaited India- Pakistan match has become even more exclusive as both countries have stopped playing bilateral series due to their political differences. There have been no bilateral matches between these two teams after 2012. India and Pakistan now only play in World Cups and multi-team tournaments.

Talking of the match, it was a nail-biting affair between the two teams as it tilted in either team’s favour on different occasions. India won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar drew the first blood as he dismissed Pakistan captain Babar Azam on 10. Mohammad Rizwan steadied the innings with 43 off of 42 but none of the other batters could do much.

India chased down the target in 19.4 overs with Hardik Pandya smashing a winning six in the fourth ball of the last over. Pandya was awarded the Player of the Match for taking three wickets and scoring 33 off of 17 balls.  India plays Hong Kong in their next match of the Asia Cup on 31st August 2022.
