On 22 October 2022, Australia took on New Zealand in Sydney in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. It was the first match of the “Super 12’ stage of the mega tournament. Speaking about the Kiwis, they failed to win any matches in Australia in any format since 2011. So, a big task was waiting for them as they faced the defending champions.

Speaking about the match, Aaron Finch won the toss and he choose to bowl first. New Zealand also managed to score 200 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. But, during Australia’s chase, Glenn Phillips took a blinder of a cath as the video went viral all over the internet.

Here is the shared video:

Glenn Phillips took the catch of Marcus Stoinis in the match

Speaking of the video, the incident took place during the ninth over of Australia’s innings. Marcus Stoinis was batting for the Aussies. For the Kiwis, Mitchell Santner came up to bowl. On the second delivery of that over, Santner bowled a flighted delivery outside of the off stump. Stoinis tried to chip it over covers.

But, Glenn Phillips had different plans. He ran to his left from deep cover and leaped full-length to his left. Thus, he managed to grab that catch and set a great moment in the World Cup. Marcus Stoinis looked absolutely surprised as he got dismissed for seven runs off 14 balls. Even, Santer was surprised after seeing that catch by Phillips.

Speaking of the match, New Zealand batters put up a great score on the board. Devon Conway scored 92* runs off 58 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Along with him, Jimmy Neesham played a quickfire inning. He scored 26* runs off 13 balls, at a strike rate of 200. At the top, Finn Allen set the tone as he scored 42 runs off 16 balls, including five fours and three sixes. But, in reply, Australian batters fell apart. Currently, they are struggling at a score of 103 runs for seven wickets in 15.2 overs.
