Team India finished 2022 with a win over Bangladesh in the two-match Test series at their home. The Men in Blue whitewashed the Bangla Tigers. Thus, they strengthened their chances to get qualified for the final of the World Test Championship. However, they were in a spot of bother in the second Test.
Team India were struggling after losing seven wickets for 74 runs while chasing just 145 runs. But, Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer managed an unbeaten 71* partnership to win the match for their team. Now, Ashwin shared a video on his YouTube channel where he shared a funny incident during that chase involving Rishabh Pant.
Here is the shared video:
“When I was extremely nervous, there he was relaxed and cracking a joke” - Ravichandran Ashwin
Speaking of the incident, after Shubman Gill’s wicket, team management promoted Axar Patel to the number four position. Then, Virat Kohli came and failed to score big. After that, Jaydev Unadkat came out to bat as a night watchman. Now, regarding that matter, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed the dressing room conversation.
Ashwin said: “Vikram Paaji asked Kohli whether he needed a night watchman. Kohli said that he will take care and didn't need a night watchman. Rishabh Pant will usually keep the towel on top of his head and will lie down on the table. I don't know the exact reason for him doing that.”
“Vikram Rathour asked 'Virat said he didn't need a night watchman. Do you need?". (Pant replied) ‘I need watchmen throughout the night. I will go and play tomorrow. I couldn't stop laughing when he said that casually. When I was extremely nervous, there he was relaxed and cracking a joke. Rathour Bhai was like, "We have only Jaydev Unadkat left. Who else should we send?" Pant was like, “Send Ash Bhai, or send whoever you want. I will go bat tomorrow,” Ravichandran Ashwin concluded. Speaking about the match, Ravichandran Ashwin won the player of the match for scoring vital 42* runs in the second innings along with six wickets with the ball.
