As for the match, India was given a massive 187-run target to reach. With his half-century within the powerplay, Chris Green gave the yellow brigade the ideal start. However, the Indian bowlers fought back hard to pick a few wickets in the middle overs. Tim David then played a quick knock of 54 in the death overs while under pressure. He played with a strike rate of exactly 200.
India found themselves in trouble as they lost two early wickets in the chase. Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav then stabilized the innings for India. The former played the anchor and kept rotating the strike, while the latter dealt with boundaries. Suryakumar scored 69 runs in 36 balls, and Virat finished with a score of 63 runs in 48 balls.
With 11 required in the last over, Virat hit a six before getting out on the second ball. Dinesh Karthik then scored a single and gave the strike to Hardik Pandya, who scored a boundary to take the team through.
