The action returned in the Carribean Premier League (CPL) 2023 with two matches scheduled for Saturday, August 19. However, due to interruptions by rain, there was not much action on the day with rain finishing as the uncontested winner. The first game was between Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The Patriots won the toss and elected to field first. However, the match only sustained for three overs with the Knight Riders reaching 19/1. Martin Guptill was dismissed by Sheldon Cottrell for 11 off 15 balls, including two fours. Mark Deyal and Chadwick Walton remained unbeaten at 2* off 2 and 1* off 2, respectively as the points were shared between the two teams.

In the second game, the Guyana Amazon Warriors faced off against the St Lucia Kings. The match was originally shortened to five overs per side. However, only the Warriors could complete their quota as the game had to be called off due to rain. Warriors reached a total of 56/2 in five overs with Saim Ayub unbeaten at 24* off 16, including three fours and a six. However, Azam Khan with 21 off 11, including one four and two sixes, was equally important. Talking of the bowling from the Kings, debutant Jair McAllister dismissed the power-hitter Azam Khan whereas Chris Sole walked out with the wicket of Chandrapaul Hemraj.

The dismissal of Azam Khan received a lot of attention from spectators and experts. Firstly, it was McAllister’s CPL debut and his very first wicket. Secondly, he dismissed the dangerous Azam Khan with the final ball of the innings. McAllister went on to be adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match. Talking of the delivery it was an accurate yorker that caught Azam off-guard. He went for a desperate swing of the bat, missing the pitch of the delivery completely as it went on to hit his furnitures.

However, all the good work by both sides to set up a competitive second innings went in vain as rain played spoilsport yet again. The Kings could not come out to bat and the points were shared between the two teams.
