England are starting to get a farm footing   Pakistan on home soil. This is historic Test series in itself as England are playing a red ball series in Pakistan after 17 years. They recently won a seven-match T20 series 4-3 under the captaincy of Moeen Ali. The Three Lions had a wonderful Day 1 at Rawalpindi as they made 506 runs on a pitch that was a minefield.

Zak Crawley scored 122 off 111 balls with 21 fours. Ben Duckett scored 107 off 110 balls with 15 fours. The Wicketkeeper Olie Pope also scored 108 off 104 with 14 fours. Harry Brook rounded it up by scoring a superb 153 off 116 balls with 19 fours and five sixes.

They ended up scoring a mammoth 657 runs in the first innings. The pitch at Rawalpindi was a dead flatbed and the pitch drew a lot of criticism from all quarters including the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board Ramiz Raja himself who said that Pakistan are yet to master the art of making a good Test pitch at home and that it is not easy to hit the ground running after a long hiatus but said that changes are expected with regards to pitches in Pakistan in the future.

The incident between Joe Root and Jack Leach happened in the 72nd over in the Pakistan first innings

A funny incident happened during the course of Day 2 of the Test Match. It happened at the start of the 72nd over. In a comical moment, Joe Root placed the shiny red ball on left-arm spinner Jack Leach's head and rubbed it vigorously to shine the ball. Root was trying to use the sweat which was present on Leach's head. As the rule stands now, a cricket ball can be shined using sweat but the same cannot be done using saliva. Leach took the gesture sportingly and took his cap off for Root to shine the ball, put his cap back on, and walked off the field.

Pakistan also got off to a wonderful start in their first innings with Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul- Haq scoring 114 off 203 balls with 13 fours and three sixes and 121 off 207 balls with 15 fours and two sixes. At the Lunch break, Pakistan are currently 298-3 after 83 overs. The Men in Green have continued to score runs at Rawalpindi which has been a batter's paradise.
