The second ODI between Australia and New Zealand saw bowlers having a say at the Cairns once again. In the first ODI as well, bowlers from both teams other a tough time. Talking about the second game, it wasn't too different. Batting first, the home team could only amass 195/9 at the end of their innings. Things could have been worse if not for the lower-order contribution with the bat.
At one stage, the Yellow brigade was struggling at 111/7 and was staring down a big defeat. However, the likes of Mitchell Starc (38), Adam Zampa (16), and Josh Hazlewood (23) helped the team to reach a respectable total. Steven Smith scored 61. For the Kiwis, Trent Boult and Matt Henry took four and three wickets respectively. On the other hand, Tim Southee and Mitchell Santner took one each.
In reply, the visitors got a bad start as Matin Guptill lost his wicket in the first over. They could have lost another wicket if not for Alex Carey missing the run-out of Kane Williamson. Apparently, on the last ball of the over, he tried to take off for a quick single. However, he didn't get the same response from his partner, Devon Conway.
Instead, the New Zealand skipper ran down a little more than half a track. He tried to go back and was followed by Conway for a second or two. In the midst of all this, Sean Abbott didn't have complete control of the ball. However, he managed to get hold of the white Kookaburra and threw it towards wicketkeeper Alex Carey. However, the latter tried to flick the ball towards the stumps just like MS Dhoni used to do.
The Aussie keeper in return failed to execute the run-out. The video of the incident is going viral on social media.
