On 19 January 2023, Melbourne Renegades locked horns with Sydney Thunder in the ongoing Big Bash League. It was the 47th match of the competition that took place in Canberra. Both teams were looking to win the clash to strengthen their grip in the top-four race. However, Sydney Thunder won the match by eight wickets.
Matthew Gilkes won the player of the match award for his match-winning knock. However, during the Sydney Thunder’s innings, Matt Critchley managed a top-class catch to dismiss Oliver Davies for a golden duck. Fans were stunned after seeing such a catch and that video has now gone viral.

Speaking of the video, the incident took place during the ninth over of Sydney Thunder’s innings. On the first delivery of that over, Corey Rocchiccioli took the wicket of David Warner. Then, Oliver Davies came out to bat. On the next delivery, Davies flicked the ball, and Matt Critchley dived to grab the catch.
Thus, Davies got out for a golden duck. Speaking of the match, Melbourne Renegades won the toss and opted to bat first. While batting first, they scored 142 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. Will Sutherland scored 42* runs off 33 balls, including two fours and three sixes. For Sydney Thunder, Chris Green and Usman Qadirtook two wickets each while Daniel Sams, Brendan Doggett, and Nathan McAndrew took one wicket each.
In reply, Sydney Thunder chased the target down in 18.3 overs with eight wickets in hand. Matthew Gilkes won the player of the match award for scoring 74* runs off 55 balls, including eight fours and one six. David Warner scored 26 runs off 23 balls, including one four and one six. Davies scored a golden duck while Alex Ross remained not out on 40* runs off 32 balls to ensure the chase. With this win, Sydney Thunder are on the same points as Melbourne Renegades in the fourth position.
