Watch: MS Dhoni rolls back years, hits huge sixes at nets ahead of Indian T20 League 2023

The Indian T20 League 2023 is just a month away and the teams are giving it their all to get things sorted ahead of the much-awaited tournament. Given that the matches will take place in a home-away format, the Chennai franchise will step into their arena, Chepauk stadium after a brief break. While this would mean a source of excitement for the fans, MS Dhoni might call it a time post the conclusion of the upcoming season and this might mark an end of an era. 

Ahead of the 2023 edition, Chennai’s adopted son and former team India captain Dhoni was spotted smashing the ball in the nets and one could understand that the right-handed batter has still got the old touch, as he is toiling it out, in what could be his last season with the bat and with the Chennai team as well. 

One could predict that he might return as a mentor or in some other role with the franchise given that he has been playing for the camp ever since he was picked in the auction in the inaugural season played way back in 2008. With four titles so far, Dhoni has one job left and that is to match Mumbai’s record five titles in the contest.

Can MS Dhoni live upto expectations in 2023?

Dhoni enjoyed a good season in 2022 as a batter although his team put on a drastic performance with the captaincy issue playing a major role in it. For the unversed, with Ravindra Jadeja being appointed as the captain of the team prior to the start of the 2022 edition, Dhoni took it over in the midst of the tournament all of a sudden and it was rumoured that nothing was alright between the allrounder and the franchise. 

However, to the delight of the fans, Jadeja was retained ahead of the 2023 mini-auction and with Ben Stokes getting roped in last month in the auction, Chennai found the right balance ahead of the tournament while fans, on the other hand, await the team’s comeback.
