India's Gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj Chopra, has continued his good form from the major event to other events as well. He recently secured another gold at the Kuortane Games 2022. Chopra's first throw of 86.69 metres was enough to help him win gold on an exceedingly slippery runway in a rain-soaked contest. He, however, experienced a horrible slide in one of his later attempts, which was ruled a foul.

The 24-year-old was seen smiling in disappointment after he slipped. However, he seemed to have escaped a brutal injury. As of yet, neither the athlete nor his team has issued an official statement. Chopra had previously broken the national record in Finland in another event, throwing 89.30 metres at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku. However, he had won the silver medal on that occasion.

As for the Kuortane Games, Neeraj did not undertake any more tries after the third one on which he slid. This might be a precautionary measure to avoid injury before major tournaments such as the World Athletics Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games.

With a throw of 86.64m, Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago came close but had to settle for silver. World Champion Anderson Peters, who has broken the 90-metre barrier this season, took bronze with a throw of 84.75m. Sandeep Chaudhury, who finished eighth with a best throw of 60.35m, was another player who represented India in the event.

In the meantime, Chopra will lead India's 37-man athletics team at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced the news on Thursday. Other notable athletes among the 37 include Dutee Chand and Hima Das.

Avinash Sable, who just broke his own national record in the 3000m steeplechase for the eighth time, is also in the team. Jyothi Yarraji, who set a new national record in the 100m hurdles twice last month, is also in the team.
