Loyal players are a major factor for Chennai being one of the most successful teams in the ITL. When recalling the team's legacy, Thala MS Dhoni and Chinna Thala Suresh Raina always come to mind. They have been a part of the team since its inception and have been strong through thick and thin. Suresh Raina going unsold in the recent mega auction has been heartbreaking for the fans of the team.
The left-hander was their highest run-scorer ever and fourth-highest across all teams in the history of the tournament. He was with them in all the four championships they won but looked a little out of touch in 2021. The team CEO, Kasi Vishvanath also said that a player's form majorly contributed towards a team's composition, which Raina lacked.
He scored just 160 runs in 12 matches for them last season and was left out of the playing XI for a few matches due to an injury. He did not even play the final against Kolkata, which Chennai won to get their fourth title win.
An old interview of Suresh Raina has resurfaced on the internet in the last two days. He said that he would convince MS Dhoni to play for the 2022 season and that he would also not participate in the tournament if Dhoni decides not to. There has been a doubt on how long MS Dhoni will continue to play the tournament.

Chennai in ITL 2022 mega auction
Meanwhile, Chennai was able to get their hands on some of their players from the last season. Robin Uthappa, Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner and Ambati Rayudu were the players they re-bought. Devon Conway and Maheesh Theekshana were other interesting buys this season for Chennai.
