After a 16-year wait, Liverpool won the Community Shield on Saturday by defeating Manchester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium. Darwin Nunez, Mohammed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all contributed goals to guarantee that Liverpool won the championship.

With this victory, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp now holds every domestic championship in the UK. The highlight of the game was Nunez, who came off the bench to win a penalty and score his first goal since joining Liverpool from Benfica.

Arnold scored Liverpool's first goal with an incredible shot in the game's 21st minute. The shot from the 23-year-old came from outside the 18-yard box, and City goalkeeper Ederson was helpless to stop it. Arnold curved his shot, and at the King Power Stadium, the Liverpool fans exploded in celebration as soon as the ball entered the goalpost.

A thunderous goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold handed Liverpool a well-earned lead at the break against Manchester City. But after the break, Julian Alvarez's equaliser gave Pep Guardiola's team a chance to get back in the game.

The other significant piece of summer business for Liverpool was locking down Mohamed Salah to a new three-year contract, and the Egyptian proved lethal from the spot after Nunez's header was handled by Ruben Dias. The Uruguayan then had his own moment of glory by crouching to score in stoppage time and celebrating by ripping off his shirt.

With the victory, Liverpool won the traditional season opener for the first time since 2006 and set the tone for what is anticipated to be yet another title race in the Premier League. In a dramatic season-ending match, City had managed to hold off the Reds to win the Premier League for the fourth time in five years by one point.
