Australian skipper Pat Cummins is attracting the headlines for his witty and humorous responses in interactions with journalists and press conferences. He has gone through a lot of questions in the ongoing Ashes 2023; be it on the Carey-Bairstow run-out controversy or Australia’s defeat in the third Test at Headingley.

Recently, he came up with a similar sort of witty response when he was asked about his possible decision if he would’ve won the toss in the ongoing fourth Ashes 2023 Test. The question was asked by none other than the former England batter and currently the broadcaster, Mike Atherton.

“Pat. No luck with the coin, but what would you have done?”, asked Atherton after Pat Cummins lost the toss in the ongoing penultimate Ashes 2003 Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester.

"Showing up his presence of mind and wit, the Aussie skipper came up with an interesting response and said, “I'm not going to the casino. Yeah, we would have had a bowl, but yeah, not a bad toss to lose, I think. Looks like a good wicket.”

The video of this moment is also making rounds on social media as soon as it was shared on the micro-blogging site Twitter by the official broadcasters of the Ashes 2023.

Mike also asked about some key factors for Australia in the 4th Test of the series. It also included a question on the veteran spinner Nathan Lyon’s absence. “For the first time in over a decade, Australia going into a test match without a specialist spinner. Just explain the rationale behind that decision,” Atherton came up with a counter-question on Nathan Lyon’s absence from playing XI of Australia.

“Just conditions based and probably more than anything else, the game's played at quite a quick pace here and we've felt like we've got plenty of bowling. Having two all-rounders plus Travis head gives us plenty of options,” said Cummins.

“You know, whatever you select, there's always a bit of a risk. Obviously, losing Nathan Lyon makes it a little bit different, so, yeah, we've just gone for a slightly different lineup than normal,” he added.
