Shoaib Malik, who is a part of the Rangpur Riders in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), played his 500th T20 match in the game against Dhaka Dominators on February 3, Friday. For the unversed, he is the only third player on the planet to achieve the feat and his teammates, who took cognizance of the same, honoured the veteran with a guard of honour.

Before the start of the much-exciting match, the Riders' teammates gathered together and gave Malik the ‘Guard of Honour’ as he walked out on the field. The Pakistani star, however, was taken away from the gesture and moment and looked completely emotional. The teary-eyed batter walked out to the field with confidence as his team marched onto the green surface to take on the Dominators.

It was a very important match for us to qualify: Nurul Hasan

That being said, it was the Dominators who batted first on the day as the Riders’ skipper and star Bangladeshi batter Nurul Hasan won the toss and elected to field first. It was a disappointing outing with the bat for both teams although it was Nurul who played the winning hand for the Riders. As far as the first innings is concerned, the Dominators put on 130 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets.

It was a tough chase for the Riders as they struggled to keep up with the Dominators’ pacers initially, although Nurul steadied the innings and kept his team in the race. Much to the delight of the fans, it was the wicketkeeper who stood up for the team with his 33-ball 61 and helped the team chase down the target with 2 wickets to spare.

“It was a very important match for us to qualify. It was a great game. We lost wickets in the middle overs but no issues, we won the game. The next three matches are very important for us to finish in the top two and we will try to do well,” Nurul was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
