On 10 January 2023, team India began their first ODI series of this new year at home against Sri Lanka. In the context of the upcoming 50-over World Cup, this series is going to be a crucial one for the Men in Blue. However, after taking a rest from the T20I series, senior players like Rohit Sharma made a comeback.

So, all eyes were on the Indian skipper and his form with the bat.  He sustained a thumb injury in the second ODI against Bangladesh in December 2022. So, fans were hoping to see him with great form in this series opener. However, he came up with an excellent shot while batting first in the match and that video has now gone viral.

Here is the shared video:

Rohit Sharma scored 83 runs off 67 balls in the first ODI

Speaking of the video, the incident took place during the seventh over of India’s innings. Rohit was batting while Kasun Rajitha was bowling. On the fourth delivery of that over, Rajitha bowled a short ball after seeing Rohit Sharma coming down the ground. Still, the Indian skipper continued his shot and pulled that ball into the crowd over the midwicket region.

Speaking of the match, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and asked India to bat first. For the home side, skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill came out to open the innings. Gill got a chance ahead of Ishan Kishan in the opening slot along with Rohit. They gave a fantastic start as they scored 143 runs in just 19.4 overs. Shubman Gill scored 70 runs off 60 balls, including 11 fours.

Rohit Sharma missed a century when he got out for 83 runs off 67 balls. He hit nine fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of 123.88. He managed his fifty only off 41 balls. Hence, it was a great comeback for Rohit in the first ODI in Guwahati. India were at 173 runs in 23.1 overs when he got out to Dilshan Madushanka.
