Former India skipper Virat Kohli is playing his 100th Test match in Mohali against Sri Lanka. Kohli would have been the skipper had he not left the job after the South Africa series in January this year. With him leaving the job, Rohit Sharma has taken over the responsibility. Notably, after Kohli had left the T20I leadership role and been removed from ODIs, Sharma has taken over the role. Now, the 34-year-old is captaining the team in all formats.

In his first Test as skipper, the Mumbai-born has won the toss and chose to bat first on a flat track. On the first day, the team amassed 357/6, with Rishabh Pant (96) and Hanuma Vihari (58) scoring half-centuries while the former skipper scoring 46. On Day Two (March 5), the team went on to put up a daunting total of 574/8 before declaring the innings. Ravindra Jadeja (175*) became the only centurion for the team and Ravichandran Ashwin (61) scored another half-century.

After the declaration, surprisingly an early tea was taken by the match officials. After the tea break, the team was moving out in the field. However, in the middle of it, Sharma asked Kohli to move back and asked his teammates to stand in two lines facing each other. Kohli moved back while the players formed the lines. Then, the right-hander came out and was given the guard of honor by the new skipper and the team.
