Things did not go Pakistan's way in the final of the Asia Cup 2022 as they lost to Sri Lanka by 23 runs. After losing early wickets in the first innings, Sri Lanka managed to do well with the bat setting a score of 170. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was the star of the show with his score of 71 runs in 45 balls.

However, the left-hander received a couple of lifelines after being dropped multiple times. Shadab Khan and Asif Ali collided while taking Rajapaksa's catch and eventually turned it into a six in the high-octane clash.

Rajapaksa launched the ball over deep mid-wicket on the last ball of the penultimate over. Asif and Shadab both ran from opposite ends to take the catch. Asif was closer to the ball, but the duo struggled to communicate, Shadab collided with his teammates. Because of the collision, the ball jumped off Asif's hands and went for a six. The video of the same has gone viral over the internet.

Shadab's head collided with Asif's hand as the former felt discomfort and collapsed on the ground after the incident, forcing the medical team to enter the scene to examine him. Shadab exited the field and sat near the boundary ropes for the final over after a brief check-up. The dropped catch cost Pakistan dearly, as Rajapaksa smashed 14 runs in the final over of Naseem Shah to help Sri Lanka post a challenging total.

As for the game, Pakistan lost a couple of early wickets while chasing 171 runs. Mohammad Rizwan was the men in green's lone warrior, scoring 55 runs in 49 balls. Most other batters lacked intent as only two others could enter the double figures. The Babar Azam-led team was eventually dismissed for a score of 147 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Pramod Madushan and Wanindu Hasaranga were at the top of their game with the ball, picking four and three wickets, respectively. Chamika Karunaratne also got two wickets in the match, while Maheesh Theekshana got one.
