Against England Women, Smriti Mandhana put up her hand to take India to win in the first ODI of the series. Mandhana enhanced her reputation as one of India's most prolific match winners with an impressive 91 in the opening WODI, which effectively decimated England by seven wickets.

Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bowl first. Veteran India pacer Jhulan Goswami was pinpoint accurate with 42 dot balls in one of her final international games as England managed a disappointing 227 for seven, thanks largely to efforts from the lower middle order.

During the chase, India was never in trouble as Mandhana drove and pulled her way to the win before missing out on a deserving sixth ODI century by nine runs. Mandhana, however, ensured a 45th over finish for the Women in Blue, who now lead the three-match series 1-0. Mandhana's innings included ten fours and a wonderful six over long-on off seamer Issy-Wong.

Yastika Bhatia (50 off 47 balls) also hit her third half-century and scored at a run-a-ball rate. Yastika-Mandhana's 96-run second-wicket stand in 16.1 overs laid the groundwork, and Harmanpreet (74 not out in 94 balls) eased her way to another fifty, adding 99 runs with her deputy and finishing the game with a slog sweep six.

"I think I would have enjoyed it a bit more if I stayed not out, but big thanks to the Indian crowd for coming out to watch, glad we could put up a show for you guys," Mandhana said in the post-match presentation.

Speaking about the changes she made for this match, Mandhana said, "Good that Harman finally won the toss (laughs), we could see the wicket enough and then I had to resist my backfoot game and play more of the front foot, that was a small tweak I made today."

"I would like to dedicate this medal to Jhulu di (Jhulan Goswami), this entire series we will be playing to dedicate to Jhulu di," she concluded.
