Jhulan Goswami, one of the finest cricketers India has ever produced has announced her retirement from the great game. The highest wicket-taker in Women’s cricket will play her last match at Lord’s Cricket Ground when India's Women’s team meet England for the third and final ODI match of the series.
The 39-year-old has been a mainstay in Women’s cricket since she made her debut more than 20 years ago. Known for her deadly inswingers, Goswami went on to become the best fast bowler in the game and ruled Women’s cricket like very few have.
In a career that spanned two decades, the fast bowler from Nadia has achieved everything bar the World Cup and that remains her biggest regret. Talking to the media ahead of the third ODI match she said, “I have played two World Cup finals but couldn’t win the trophy. That remains my only regret because you prepared for the World Cup for four years. There is a lot of hard work. For every cricketer, it is a dream-come-true moment to win a World Cup.”
Jhulan Goswami however went on to motivate millions of girls to take up their dream and break the shackles of old norms, and that is certainly much more than any material achievement could ever be.
Sony Sports Network celebrates the great cricketer with a video clip on Twitter. The tweet captioned, “One of the GOATs of Wome’s Cricket and the highest wicket-taker in WODIs is all set to bid adieu to International cricket. Here’s a tribute to team India’s Jersey No 25 ahead of her final match tomorrow.”

India has already won the series following victory in the first and second matches and a win in the third would be a great farewell to Goswami on Saturday. India’s current captain Harmanpreet Kaur reiterated the same thought saying, ” "The Lord's game is very special for us because it's Jhulan's retirement and we wanted to enjoy that game without any pressure and I'm really happy that we were able to win today and now we can just have fun in that game."
