The star England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow hasn’t enjoyed a good run of form so in the Ashes 2023, be it with the bat or behind the wickets. But still, he has been found in the cross-hairs of a few controversies, including a debatable run-out in the second Test and now getting involved in a heated moment with former Australian skipper Steve Smith.
The moment came in the 28th over of the second innings of Australia; Mooen Ali managed to trap Smith in his spin web and got him out straight in the hands of Ben Duckett. Just a moment after Duckett’s catch, Bairstow was heard saying something to Smith, while the latter was making his way back to the pavilion.
The veteran Aussie batter who was already frustrated at his own shot, took a pause in his walk and asked Bairstow what was he saying. The conversation between Smith and Bairstow broke out as follows:
Bairstow - "See ya, Smudge!"
Smith - "What was that, mate?!?,”
Smith - “Heyyy!”
Bairstow - "I said 'Cheers, see ya later'."
The video of this ‘not-so-pleasant’ moment between the Aussie batting star and England’s wicketkeeper started making rounds on social media within minutes of being shared by Sky Sports on the micro-blogging site Twitter.
