England star pacer Stuart Broad dismissed Australia's opener David Warner for the 17th time in a Test match in the third Ashes Test, which is taking place at Headingley in Leeds on Friday. Notably, on Thursday, Broad also knocked out Warner in the first innings. Earlier, the English captain won the toss and invited the Pat Cummins-led Australian side to bat first. After opting to field first, the 24-year-old seamer knocked out Warner yet again.
Notably, England is required to win this match to sustain the series, and they got off to a terrific start when Broad (2-20) struck in the very first over of the game. The English side made three changes and added all-rounder Chris Woakes and explosive seamer Mark Wood, who are both making their Ashes debuts. Moeen Ali, a terrific spinner, is also back for Ben Stokes's side.
The first innings of England ended with a score of 237, with skipper Ben Stokes getting 80 runs off 108 balls. England trailed 142-7 and 121 runs behind Australia's first innings total of 263 over the break on the second day. Before the break, all-rounders Moeen Ali (21) and Chris Woakes (10) were out, with Ali's attempted pull shot costing him his wicket in the process. Notably, Bairstow dropped Travis Head and Smith in yet another terrible keeping performance, while, on the other hand, Root badly dropped Alex Carey on 4 and missed Mitch Marsh on 12. Marsh eventually scored 118 runs, which marked his comeback in the test match. Notably, five opportunities were lost by Root and Bairstow on the day.
Australia trailed England by 55 runs at tea after Day 2
In the Ashes 2023, Australia leads the series 2-0, and Pat Cummins' side will try to claim it all by crushing Ben Stokes' England one more time. Notably, Jonny Bairstow's disputed departure in the second match of the series garnered a lot of attention ahead of the third Test at Headingley.
Meanwhile, during the ongoing third match of the Ashes Test, Australia trailed England by 55 runs at tea after posting 29-1 in its second innings. Marnus Labuschagne scored 7 runs, while Usman Khawaja is unbeaten at 20 runs.
