MS Dhoni is the only Indian captain to have guided the team to the 20-20 World Cup championship. The veteran cricketer has been part of each edition of the 20-20 World Cup in some a or the other. He guided the team to a win in 2007, and he also captained the team in the 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016 editions. He was the team mentor in the 2021 edition of the mega event.
The 2022 edition, being played in Australia, is the first time Dhoni is not a part of the 20-20 World Cup. A video of MS Dhoni discussing the world event has gone viral ahead of India's season opener against Pakistan in Melbourne on Sunday.
The legendary Indian captain can be seen interacting with fans on stage in the short video when the moderator said, "So close to the World Cup if I don't ask you a World Cup question, they are gonna lynch me". Dhoni immediately responded with a great comment that had the fans in splits. "I'm not playing the World Cup... The team has already left," he said.

The former India wicketkeeper-batter, regarded as one of the greatest captains in cricket history, announced his retirement on August 15, 2020. Since then, Dhoni has only played for the Chennai team in the Indian T20 League. According to reports, the talismanic man from Ranchi will lead the team again in the next year's edition of the cash-rich league, which is set to return to a home-and-away format after a three-year hiatus.
Meanwhile, India begins their campaign against Pakistan, followed by matches against the Netherlands, South Africa, and Zimbabwe in the Super 12 stage of the tournament. The top two teams from each group of six will advance to the semi-finals.
In the previous edition, India was eliminated from the Super 12 stage after failing to defeat the two major teams in their group, Pakistan and New Zealand. They will try to turn the tables this time.
