The Match between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2022 turned out to be a last-over thriller, as Sultans defended 8 runs in the last over. In a match that could have gone either way, Multan Sultans held on to maintain their winning streak this season.
Batting first, Multan Sultans lost their star batter Mohammad Rizwan early on, but other players turned to chip in at this time. Shan Masood, who had a good last season was the main architect of this innings. He scored 88 runs at a strike rate of 151. He hit 6 fours and 4 sixes to keep the momentum alive for the Sultans. With some cameos from Shoaib Maqsood, Rilee Rossouw, and Tim David, they reached a total of 174-4 in 20 overs. Only Mohammad Hasnain and James Faulkner bowled well in the first innings.
In the second innings, the match remained neutral throughout, with Ben Duckett and Iftikhar Ahmed scoring decent runs. It was not until the last over that the match turned exciting. Gladiators needed 8 runs to win, and Sultans needed 2 wickets. David Willy got two dot balls and conceded a single on the third ball. Willey bowled a short ball to get rid of Sohail Tanvir.
Gladiators now needed 7 runs in 2 balls with 1 wicket in hand. Willey, once again, opted for the short ball and the batter had no choice to go for it. The ball almost sailed over the fence but Tim David took a stunner to win the game for Multan. He went over the ropes but did well to make it a clean catch.
