On 23 October 2022, India locked horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup. Both teams and fans were waiting to see them in action as India lost the last World Cup game against Pakistan. However, Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat first.
However, India did not disappoint their fans as they clinched a thriller at Melbourne. Virat Kohli became the player of the match as he managed to finish the match for India. Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed scored two fifties. For India, both Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya took three wickets each. But, Indian batters failed miserably against the Pakistani bowlers. Then, Virat Kohli scored 82* runs off 53 balls, including six fours and four sixes. Along with him, Hardik Pandya stitched a 100-run partnership also in the match. These innings helped India to win the first match of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 by four wickets. The former skipper also won the player of the match award for his scintillating knock.
