Former legendary India skipper Kapil Dev was critical of the current players of Team India following their loss to West Indies in the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series. He took a brutal dig at the current cricketers, calling them ‘arrogant’ and said that they don’t prefer to seek advice or help from the ex-cricketers or greats of the game when things are bad.
Notably, Kapil made this statement following his former teammate and former legendary Indian batter, Sunil Gavaskar's remarks. The former Indian batter was not happy with the attitude of current Indian cricketers. The star Indian all-rounder and veteran star, Ravindra Jadeja responded with a strong reply to Kapil’s statement. He was asked about Kapil's comments during the pre-match press conference.
“Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. These cricketers feel they know everything. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won’t hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from,” Kapil told The Week.
Such comments generally come when India loses – Ravindra Jadeja on Kapil Dev’s statement
Responding to this, Jadeja denied all these claims and came up with a very clear answer to the former India captain's ‘arrogant’ remark. “I don’t know when he said this. I don’t search for these things on social media. See everyone has their own opinion. Ex-players have full right to share their opinion, but I don’t think there is any arrogance in this team,” said Jadeja to the journalists in Trinidad.
“Everyone is enjoying their cricket and everyone is hardworking. No one has taken anything for granted. They are giving their 100 per cent. Such comments generally come when the Indian team lost a match. This is a good bunch of boys; this is a good group. We are representing India and that is our main aim, there is no personal agenda,” he added later.
