England anticipate another extreme pitch for the fourth and final Test against India at Ahmedabad. Wicket-keeper batsman Ben Foakes stated that England could master the spinning conditions and pull off an impressive series draw. England lost the third Test within two days, which proved to be the shortest one since 1935. England is currently down 2-1 ahead of the fourth Test that will begin on Thursday.
The visitors had considered making a formal complaint about the pitch for the third Test. However, they decided that it was best to move on and focus on becoming the first team to prevent a series defeat in India since 2012. Joe Root and the team can at least be encouraged by the return of the traditional red ball. The pink ball used in last week's day-night Test assisted spinners as numerous deliveries skid on at a pace, and 12 batsmen across both teams were trapped lbw.
I have probably not seen or experienced a wicket like that before, so it was a good challenge to keep on: Ben Foakes
Having lost the second Test in Chennai on a similar turning pitch, the visitors will now have to bounce back and plan against India spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. The spin duo has taken 33 wickets in the last two matches. As England's wicketkeeper, Foakes has had the best view of the surfaces used for the previous two Tests. However, the batsman is keen to emphasize the positives ahead of the final Test. Foakes is expecting more of the same track for the final Test having had an early look at the pitch during the training session on Sunday.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has received plenty of plaudits for his performances with the gloves over the last two Tests. The Surrey wicketkeeper also agrees that it's been the most formidable challenge of his career to date. Foakes came into the Test squad after Jos Buttler traveled home after the first Test. This was a part of England's commitment to rotate their multi-format players considering a grueling 2021 schedule. The fourth and final Test of the India-England series is going to take place in Ahmedabad from March 4. A win or a draw will put Virat Kohli and Co. in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
