New IPL team Lucknow Super Giants took a dig at Rajasthan Royals on Twitter. The Lucknow-based team announced the official name of the team on January 24. The team asked the fans to suggest names on their website for the team and most of the fans suggested Super Giants.

The team took to Twitter to announce the name of the team. The RP Sanjiv Goenka Group acquired the team for 7090 crores INR last year. The group also owned the Pune-based team for two seasons in 2016 and 2017. Firstly in 2016, it was named as Rising Pune Supergiants but was changed to Rising Pune Supergiant next year.

Gujarat Lions, alongside Pune, was added into the tournament as Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were suspended in late 2015 due to spot-fixing and betting. In 2017, it was decided that both teams would be brought back which meant Gujarat and Pune were disbanded.

Meanwhile, on January 24, the Lucknow team announced their official team name with the caption ‘And here it is, Our identity, Our name.... #NaamBanaoNaamKamao #LucknowSuperGiants @BCCI @IPL @GautamGambhir @klrahul11’.

Rajasthan Royals, who are famous for coming up with memes and cheeky replies, responded saying ‘Pun(e) intended’ featuring famous Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal. This meant that the franchise was trying to remind the Sanjiv Goenka-owned team that they removed the letter 'S' from the Super Giants in 2017.

In response, Lucknow replied with the tweet saying “With all due respect, we missed you those 2 years,” taking a dig at the Royals who were suspended in the aftermath of infamous IPL spot fixing scandal.
